OK, let me back up and give you a little history...
My name is Shaun Pearce. As well as being a professional video maker,
I've been around computers and software for over twenty years.
I wanted to create a brochure to send
to prospective clients.
Most other freelancers simply send out a resume with a covering letter

the vast majority of which just get tossed in the trash. I wanted
something that would a) get noticed and b) get retained and referred
back to if the production company didn't have any work for me then and

black and white design was going

is well over $120 USD today. I didn't bother to ask how much the
full job was going to cost - I knew it would be more than I could
afford.
I decided to do the job myself, and got
some DTP software. I
thought it would be pretty easy to figure out; after all, desktop
publishing is one of those things that's so cool you just want to dive
right in and start creating.
The only trouble was, by plunging in headfirst without any guidance I
just couldn't figure it out and became very frustrated.
People have called me stubborn, but I wasn't going to admit defeat.
I thought of a solution...
I went down to my local book store and bought a book about desktop
publishing - the best selling one according to their so-called "expert".

This is not a good method to use.
Trust me!
You practically had to be
a brain surgeon to figure out what they were
talking about.
The big problem is most books on the subject are filled with jargon and
really complicated examples.
They just don't have enough "hands on"

In the end, I just sat at the computer and worked things out through
trial and error (mostly error) until I "got it". And when I "got
